On the roads of Chile

Since more than a week we are again in Chile. We crossed the border at Chico Chile located at Lago Buenos Aires or Lago General Carrera. The lake is the second largest in South America and split between Argentina and Chile. The 100km rough road after the border were surly the most beautiful we have driven here so far. The narrow road led directly along the lake shore sometimes very deep downwards at on side and steep upwards at the other.

Meanwhile we have driven  a lot more kilometres on these rough roads. We are on the Carretera Austral, a road which is famous in Chile as it crosses the whole country. Many parts are unpaved and that means for us we are very slow and other cars overtake us quite frequently. If this happens we find ourselves in a cloud of dust so that one cannot see anything anymore for the following minutes.
So every evening our Bluebaer is covered inside with a  big layer of dust and if you try to wipe it away it rather becomes a muddy sticky something. But the trails to clean the interior a useless anyhow, next day it will be the same again.

From outside the layer of dust and dirt is so big, that some wrote some greetings on our window and it was easy to read.

Yesterday it rained a little but today it is pouring with rain. The good thing about this is that it is not dusty anymore, the bad thing is that the roads are muddy and you never know how deep a pothole is.

But we are happy being in our dry mobile home and do not envy the ones on bicycles who we meet once in a while. We did not use our bicyles for a long time due to the heavy wind and bad road conditions. But they look like we have used them for every single kilometre.
