Our time in Laos is clearly drawing to a close. We have travelled many kilometres here by ship, bus and motorbike and have seen many different places - in cities and far in the countryside. But no matter where it is, one thing is always and everywhere omnipresent and was also a good companion for us: Beer Lao.
We like to drink the local beer wherever we are and have rarely been disappointed by its taste.
But we have not yet experienced the presence of beer like in Laos. Brewed with barley, yeast and rice, Beer Lao is considered to be the best beer of Southeast Asia, is indeed of a really good, spicy taste and very popular with locals and tourists alike. Well, there are few alternatives, because Beer Lao has a market share of 98% in Laos. It even goes for export. And how could it be otherwise, the Lao Brewing Company is one of the largest taxpayers in the country. The slogan is: "The beer of the whole-hearted people." So you see it everywhere, bottles on the low tables, around which Laotians gather on small plastic chairs, in the glasses of the tourists often with ice cubes, and also, as we unfortunately had to learn, in the hands of some bus or Tuk Tuk drivers.
But the range goes far beyond that. No matter where you look, the yellow-green Beer Lao logo is always somehow in the picture: stacked beer crates, sunshades, lamps, tablecloths, sometimes almost
the entire restaurant consists of Beer Lao products.
But during our trip over land it quickly became apparent that one or the other Beer Lao crate is used as a village gas station, flower tub or umbrella stand, for example. There are no limits to
your imagination.
In this way we have also contributed our share to the success of this unique company in recent weeks. And that was not difficult at all.
